The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and leaves your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are great features.
Be sure to regularly check your robot's brushes for hair tangled and large particles and clean them as required. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger one at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.
It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to offer better cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as some area rug. Its obstacle detection was great and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.
robotic hoovers is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and drys mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas are.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home via the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
